a hand built ceramic bust of pop star/drag artist Chappell Roan in one of her more famous looks at NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. I wanted to capture her portrayal of camp and whimsy, with everything “girl” I could possibly think of, cigarettes and butterflies and makeup and lace and lashes and glitter and pink. I’m often drawn to the “muchness” of something, the all consuming, the overwhelming. I love jewels and fur coats and big hair, I love makeup and the color pink and playing dress up, I love all of the everything, only in the solace that I can take it all off and strip it back down to the plain. Remember, under all of this, is a white pedestal.
